Tuscana

Tuscania

Listen to the story

Tuscana, now Tuscania, an Etruscan town on the river Marta where the Via Clodia crossed it, traced its legendary founding to Ascanius, son of Aeneas. Its chamber tombs have yielded many sarcophagi of noble families, and inscriptions name a haruspex, an official reader of omens in the old Etruscan manner. Until 1911 the town was called Toscanella. On the map the road on to the next stop has no distance, and a station seems to have dropped out.
