Road station
Turris Cesaris
Polignano a Mare?
Listen to the story
Turris Cesaris, Caesar's Tower, was a station on the Via Traiana between Bari and Egnatia, probably at Polignano a Mare or nearby San Vito on the Adriatic. A Roman register of routes calls it simply the Towers, while the pilgrim's route from Bordeaux lists both a Tower of Aurelian and a Tower of Julius on this stretch, perhaps a muddle over one and the same place. A town called Neapolis, known only from its coins, must also have lain somewhere nearby.
