Turis

Sibari (Barrington)

Listen to the story

Turis is Thurii, the city founded in the fifth century BC near the ruins of Sybaris, the proverbially luxurious Greek city that Croton had destroyed. According to the historian Diodorus, the settlers took the name from a spring called Thuria that flowed through a bronze pipe, and laid out a regular plan of four long streets crossed by three; the historian Herodotus was among its citizens. Under Rome it received a colony and the new name Copia.
