Turres
near Palidoro (Barrington)
Listen to the story
Turres, the towers, known to a Roman register of routes as Ad Turres, lay on the Via Aurelia near Palidoro, where Roman ruins at Casale di Statua may be the foundations of the towers that gave it its name. The map, though, sets it on a side road towards the hot springs of Aquae Apollinares, without a distance, and leaves out its link to the harbour town of Pyrgi. No trace of that side road has been found, and the ground makes it unlikely that one ever existed.
