Road station

Turrita

S. Stefano ai Lupi [6]

Listen to the story

Turrita, the towered place, was a station on the coast road from Pisa towards Rome, near Livorno, and scholars disagree whether it is the same as Triturrita, the villa with three towers where the poet Rutilius Namatianus landed on his journey home to Gaul and walked on to Pisa. Against it speaks that the villa stood on the shore, while the road station lay inland. The map gives no distance from Pisa.
