Nerulos
Rotonda [Pleiades] · Castelluccio [Mannert]
Listen to the story
Nerulos was a fortified town in the interior of Lucania, and the Roman historian Livy records that the consul Aemilius Barbula took it by assault in 317 BC. It lay on the high road from Capua to Rhegium, where another road from Venusia by way of Potentia and Grumentum joined it, and it probably stood near Rotonda, close to the sources of the river Lao in southern Italy. The map is muddled here: the Via Popillia is not drawn through, and the line to the neighbouring station is missing, although its distance figure survives.
