Tannetum
Taneto
Listen to the story
Tannetum, now Taneto near Sant'Ilario d'Enza, stood by Rome at a dangerous moment: in 218 BC, as Hannibal marched on Italy, a Roman force ambushed by the Boii fled here, and the village took them in. For its loyalty it later received the rights of a town. The map puts it only two Roman miles from Parma, far too little; a pilgrim's route from Bordeaux gives eight.
