Tarteno

Partenkirchen?

Listen to the story

Tarteno is a copyist's slip for Parteno: a Roman register of routes calls the place Parthanum, and the name lives on in Partenkirchen at the foot of the Zugspitze. In late Roman times the first cohort of the Raeti was stationed here, guarding the road from Augsburg over the Seefeld saddle towards the Brenner.
