Tasinemeti

Velden

Listen to the story

Tasinemeti was a Roman road station at what is now Velden on the Wörthersee in Carinthia, Austria. Its name stands beside a small drawing, a mark the map gives to only a few stations and which probably signalled a proper stopping place where travellers could rest. Finds from the area pin the site down well. The map puts it twenty Roman miles from Virunum, remarkably close to the real distance, and nine from Saloca. Beyond it the road has a gap, and the stage on to Santico, modern Villach, has to be restored from a Roman register of routes.
