Tauriana lay somewhere in the Axios valley of Greek Macedonia, perhaps near Chorygi, at the hill of Kalabak with its classical and Hellenistic settlement, or at Palaio Gynaikokastro, where a Roman cemetery has been found; others look for it at Nov Dojran on Lake Dojran in North Macedonia. It was a station on the road along the Axios, probably founded late, for the traffic. The map's twenty miles, about thirty kilometres, from Idomenia fall well short of the real distance, perhaps because an X was lost. The name is shared with another place on the map.
