Tea Nomarruci

Chieti

Listen to the story

Tea Nomarruci is a copyist's jumble of Teate Marrucinorum, Teate of the Marrucini, now Chieti, the only town of that people, on a steep hill above the Aterno. One of its temples, now built into the church of Saints Peter and Paul, was put up by Vettius Marcellus, on whose estate, the Roman writer Pliny reports, a landslide once carried fields and olive trees across the road. On the map the following word, noceios, may even belong to the same garbled name.
