Tegris

Martensko Kale

Tegris, Tigra in the Roman register of routes, was a small Danube fort east of Ruse, at Martensko Kale near the village of Marten. A late Roman list of garrisons calls it the castle of Tegra and names a cavalry unit stationed there, and tiles stamped by a third cohort have been found on the site. The map gives nine miles from Pristis and fourteen on to Appiaris, where the register has thirteen.
