Telesie

S. Salvatore Telesino [3 · 6] · Telese Vetere [Pleaides]

Listen to the story

Telesie is Telesia, whose walls with thirty-five towers still ring the fields near San Salvatore Telesino, where the Calore flows towards the Volturno. Hannibal took the town in 217 BC and Fabius won it back in 214; later it became a colony named after Hercules, with a theatre, an amphitheatre and baths fed by sulphur springs. It was the home of Pontius Telesinus, who led the Samnites against Rome in the Social War.
