Listen to the story
Telamone, now Talamone on the Tuscan coast, was said to have been founded by the Argonauts and named after one of them, the hero Telamon. In 225 BC the Romans crushed a great Celtic army here, and in 87 BC the exiled Marius landed here from Africa to march on Rome; Sulla later seems to have punished the town for welcoming him. On the map the name is hard to read, because a river was drawn through it and later scraped away.
