Telonno

Toulon · Saugnacq-et-Muret?

Telonno is usually taken to be Toulon-sur-Arroux, in the land of the Aedui south of Autun. The name is hard to read: the second and third letters are unclear, the engravings of 1598, 1682 and 1728 printed Teionno, and others guessed Ticlonno. An inspection of the parchment itself in 2001 confirmed the letters E and L. The map gives twelve from Autun, though the real distance is nearer sixteen. Older research even placed Caesar's defeat of the Helvetii in 58 BC here.
