Tarvessedum, which a Roman register of routes calls Tarvesede, lay high on the Splügen road above Chiavenna, at Madesimo or Pianazza. The map puts it ten Roman miles from the pass station Cunu Aureu and twenty from Clavenna, now Chiavenna, which is too long; the register gives fifteen.
