Tamannuna Municipium et castellum

Ain Toumella (Barrington) · Areridj (Miller)

Tamannuna Municipium et castellum, both a municipium and a fort, was a crossroads in Mauretania: here the road from Sitifis to Tamascani met a second route that ended at Saldae, now Bougie, on the Mediterranean. As a junction it would deserve a picture on the map, yet for whatever reason it has none, only its long name. A modern atlas identifies it with Thamallula at Ain Toumella, a town whose inscriptions speak of the Thamallulenses; older research preferred Areridj.
