Road station
Salmalasso
? Gelengeç ? Lori ?
Salmalasso is a Cappadocian name found nowhere but on this map, and its site is disputed. One suggestion places it near Gelengeç, where ruins of an important Byzantine town were reported in 1964; another prefers Lori, a stop on the Ottoman post road, in a valley that sheltered the caravan route on its rough mountain crossing. On that view the twenty miles from Satala fit, but the twenty to Darucinte are corrupt. The station may also have been the forerunner of Horonon, a frontier bastion described by Procopius, though others place that fort at the next station.
