Hassis

? Gegend von Balahor

Hassis is the town the Roman writer Pliny calls Aza, one of three well-known towns of Lesser Armenia, alongside Caesarea and Nicopolis; the geographer Ptolemy lists it too, and the Roman register of routes writes Haza. The name is probably Cappadocian. Its site is still debated, with suggestions ranging from a fort near Cemallı to the area of Balahor. The thirteen miles the map gives from Ziziola seem too many; perhaps it should be eight.
