Hasia

Asti

Hasia is Hasta, today Asti in Piedmont, on the Tanaro, one of the first Roman footholds in the Celtic north of Italy, on a road that probably goes back to the consul Fulvius Flaccus in 125 BC. The Roman writer Pliny praises its pottery. In 402 the town held out against Alaric and his Goths, and in 534, during an emergency in Liguria, the Gothic government sent it relief. A Roman tower, the Torre Rossa, still stands. On the map the road to Turin wrongly runs by way of Pollentia instead of going straight.
