Road station

Hammeo

Prokuplje?

Hammeo, the Roman Hammeum, was the second station on the road that crossed the Balkans from Naissus to Lissus on the Adriatic, a road still in use in 471, as the Gothic historian Jordanes shows; here a road also branched off to Scupi. It is placed at Prokuplje in Serbia. The list of places compiled in Ravenna writes Acmeon. The map sets Hammeo twenty Roman miles from Ad Fines and six from Ad Herculem, a figure older research thought might stand for sixteen.
