Haribus

Guellala? (Barrington)

Listen to the story

Haribus may be Hares or Ares, the later name of Meninx, the old capital of the island of Djerba, and a bishop Secundus of Ares is recorded in 411. Older research placed it at El Kantara, a field of ruins with columns of Carrara marble and porphyry, Corinthian capitals, statues, a citadel and a splendid temple with twelve imperial statues, all of late Roman date. Kantara means the bridge: the Roman causeway that once linked the island to the mainland still rises from the shallows at low tide.
