Listen to the story
Templum Veneris, the temple of Venus, stood on a headland facing the island of Djerba in what is now Tunisia, and the map draws a small temple there. Two roads met at the settlement: one from Fulgurita, twenty-six Roman miles to the west, the other from Gigti, sixteen miles to the south. The sanctuary may go back to a Punic shrine. Across the sea, the map gives the Italian coast a matching temple headland, the temple of Minerva.
