Solonenica

Tekke ?

Listen to the story

Solonenica is a local name, Cappadocian or Pontic, and it may be the station the Roman register of routes calls Sedisca, the little seat, with the note: border of Pontus. If so, this is where the map's steep summer road met the register's gentler winter road. The likely site is the hamlet of Tekke, on a flat, bench-like hill at 1,400 metres beside the old caravan road, ringed by the remains of a wall like Justinian's fortifications at Satala, with cisterns, fragments of huge storage jars and hot sulphur springs close by. The village takes its name from a holy tomb of 1582.
