Salinas Nubonenenses

Chott el Hodna

Listen to the story

Salinas Nubonenses, the salt works, lay on the shore of the Chott el Hodna, the great salt lake in the highlands of Algeria, probably named after the nearby town of Tubunae. The list of places compiled in Ravenna even speaks of a Mauretania of the salt works. The map sets the station fifty Roman miles from Praesidium and sixteen from Vaccae.
