Saleborna

Castiglione della Pescaia [TIR

Listen to the story

Saleborna, called Salebro elsewhere, was a harbour and road station on the coast of the Maremma, probably at Portiglione di Scarlino on the gulf of Follonica, facing Elba, where stretches of the Roman paving survive. A garbled place name in a letter of Cicero, Labrone, may be this very harbour. Others looked for it at Castiglione della Pescaia, linking the name with the river Bruna, but the distances speak against that.
