Sabis

(near crossing of R. Savio) (Barrington) · Torre dei Savio (Miller)

Listen to the story

Sabis, called Sapis by ancient writers, is the river Savio, which comes down from the Apennines past Cesena, and the station stood where the coast road from Ravenna to Rimini crossed it, near the village of Savio. The map draws no river here, only the station bearing its name. The poet Lucan counts the Sapis among the rivers of the Apennines, and it gave its name to a Roman voting district, the tribe Sapinia.
