Foro Populi

Forlimpopoli

Listen to the story

Foro Populi looks like the people's market, but the name began as Forum Popilii, the market of a consul of the Popilian family, and the map already shows the popular reinterpretation that gave Forlimpopoli its modern name. Around 663 the Lombard duke Grimoald destroyed the town so thoroughly that, as the Lombard historian Paul the Deacon wrote, very few people still lived there in his own day.
