Foro Semproni

Fossombrone

Listen to the story

Foro Semproni, the market of Sempronius, perhaps founded in the time of the Gracchi, stood on the Via Flaminia about one and a half kilometres below modern Fossombrone. An inscription names its guild of muleteers at the Gallic gate: travellers could hire fresh animals at the town gate here, as they could at Rome or Milan. Yet the map gives the town no picture, although such towns offered lodging.
