Foro Voconi
Les Blaïs, zwischen Vidauban und Le Cannet-des-Maures, Var
Foro Voconi first appears in the letters to Cicero, where one correspondent reports Lepidus encamped at Forum Voconii, twenty-four miles from Fréjus, and Lepidus himself writes that he marched there and camped by the river Argens. The site has been found at Les Blaïs, between Vidauban and Le Cannet-des-Maures, a settlement about two kilometres across, confirmed by a Latin inscription on lead. The letter's distance fits the ground well, whereas the map's seventeen and the twelve of the Roman register of routes are too small, perhaps both miscopied. The name may recall the Vocontii or a man called Voconius.
