Fossis Papirianis

Viareggio [Pleiades] · Macellarino di Bozzano (Massarosa) [4]

Listen to the story

Fossis Papirianis, the ditches of Papirius, were canals dug through the coastal marshes between Luni and Pisa by a magistrate of the Roman Republic, and the station beside them lay near Viareggio or Massarosa. On the map there is so little room between the pictures of Ad Taberna Frigida and Pisa that the name had to be split into two lines, the road line is missing, and the distance is squeezed in heavy black against the coastline.
