Foro Gallorum

Castelfranco Emilia

Listen to the story

Forum Gallorum, the market of the Gauls, near Castelfranco Emilia, saw two battles in April 43 BC: Mark Antony routed the consul Pansa here, who was badly wounded, and soon afterwards the other consul, Hirtius, beat Antony on almost the same ground. On the map a river cuts the name in two, and the distance to Bologna has to sit below the road line for lack of room.
