Foro Corneli

Imola

Listen to the story

Foro Corneli, the market of Cornelius, is Imola, and the Christian poet Prudentius says that Sulla, whose family name was Cornelius, founded it. The poet Martial wrote his third book of epigrams here around 88 AD and sent it off to Rome from this small town on the Via Aemilia. In the early Middle Ages a castle called Imola was built beside it, and the castle's name eventually replaced the old one.
