Foro Clodo

S. Liberato

Listen to the story

Foro Clodo is Forum Clodii, the market of Clodius, on the hill of San Liberato above the western shore of Lake Bracciano, a site settled for certain only by finds made in 1888. It was probably named after a censor of 225 BC, and an inscription honours a later Gaius Clodius Vestalis, who may have founded the town. Its bishop Donatianus already attended the council held in Rome in 313 AD, and the town remained a bishop's seat for two centuries.
