Foro Aureli

(near Montalto di Castro) (Barrington)

Listen to the story

Foro Aureli, the market of Aurelius, was founded by the builder of the Via Aurelia on the coastal plain of Etruria, near Montalto di Castro between the rivers Fiora and Marta. In his first speech against Catiline, Cicero warned that armed supporters of the conspirator had gathered at Forum Aurelium to wait for him. Otherwise it remained an insignificant place. The map sets it four Roman miles from the Fiora and three from the Marta.
