Sacis

N Spina · Porto di Magnavacca (Italy, Po delta)

Listen to the story

Sacis ad Padum, the Sagis on the Po, was one of the mouths of the Po delta, near Porto Garibaldi at Comacchio, and the map turns the river mouth into a road station. Etruscans from Atria had long before diverted the Sagis to flood the lagoons behind the coast and make them navigable. The map also seems to have swapped this station and the next one, Ad Padum, which the Roman writer Pliny lists in the opposite order.
