Sagadava

Celei

Sagadava stands on the map just east of Durostorum, today Silistra, followed by Sucidava. Older research suspected that the two are one and the same: the Roman register of routes knows only Sucidava here, at the same distance, and a late Roman list of garrisons seems to confuse two forts with similar names, Sucidava in Lower Moesia and Sacidava in Scythia. If Sagadava is a place of its own, it lay west of the Oltina lakes. The map gives eighteen miles from Durostorum and twelve on to Sucidava.
