Listen to the story
Salinas, the salt works, was a station on the Adriatic coast road near Montesilvano Marina, just north of Pescara, and took its name from the salt produced here. It stood by the river Salino, which marked the border between two Italic peoples, the Vestini and the Praetuttii. The map calls that river Sannum, perhaps a garbled Salinum; or perhaps it was the salt works that gave the river its name in the first place.
