Saldis

Posavski Podgajci?

Saldis was a station on the road along the Sava towards Sirmium, perhaps at Posavski Podgajci in Croatia; the Greek geographer Ptolemy lists a Saldis in this region. The distance onward to the river Drinus is disputed: earlier editions read eighteen, others nineteen, but older research, looking again at a photograph of the map, saw a faded stroke that turns the figure into twenty-three, eighteen being too small. From Ad Basante the map counts twenty.
