Sallunto

Riječani

Sallunto, at this first appearance, is probably a mistake: another Sallunto follows a little further on along the same road, and the copyist seems to have written the name here too, where the station was really Salthua. A tombstone of the later second century names Agirro, son of Epicadus, as chief of the fort of Salthua, a local leader under Roman rule. The fort lay at Riječani in Montenegro, where its ruins survive. The copyist was careless here: ink blots sit between the name and its figure.
