River
Fluvius Animo
Lamone
Listen to the story
Fluvius Animo runs on the map from the Apennines into the Po, crossing the Via Aemilia between Reggio and Modena. Yet the name belongs to the river the Roman writer Pliny called Anemo, the Lamone, which rises above Faenza and reaches the Adriatic near Ravenna. Scholars disagree about the mix-up. Most see the Lamone drawn far from its true course, while others think the line is really the Secchia, correctly placed but given the wrong name. The label itself sits halfway along the river, because a mountain, a road and a symbol left no room for it at the source.
