Listen to the story
Just three Roman miles before the Rubicon, the stream Caesar crossed to start a civil war, the coast road reached the station Ad Novas, near Cesenatico on the Adriatic. The map puts it eleven Roman miles from Sabis on the Savio. Its name, at the new ones, probably refers to new inns, and several other stations on the map carry it as well.
