Ad Novas

Runović

Ad Novas has yielded mosaic floors, water pipes and a church probably built under the Ostrogoths in the sixth century, at Runović in Croatia. The town of Novae guarded the military road from Tilurium to Narona; soldiers of the governor's staff were posted here from 184, and it was a self-governing town by 194. Few towns in Dalmatia became as thoroughly Roman, above all in their cults. At the council of Salona in 532 it is named for the last time, already of little account. Novae simply means the new place, a name the map uses several times.
