Road station
Ad Padum
N Spina
A small station symbol marks Ad Padum on the road through the Po delta, and a register of Italian sites classes it as a mansio, an overnight stop for travellers. The name simply means 'at the Po', and the station probably lay near the mouth of the Po di Volano, in the province of Ferrara. Yet the map seems to muddle two things here: its neighbour Sacis was really a mouth of the river, the one the Roman writer Pliny calls Sagis. The copyist also set the pair in reverse order, and Pliny's sequence is the right one.
