Ad Pertusa

el Harairia

Listen to the story

Ad Pertusa, at the pierced rocks, took its name from a cutting through the rock on a hill beside the salt lake of Sebkha es-Sedjoumi, at El Harairia near Tunis, close to a small shrine of a local saint. It was the last stop before Carthage on the road from the interior: the map sets it fourteen Roman miles from Carthage and four from Ad Mercurium. A Roman register of routes knows it simply as Pertusa.
