Ad Pontem Campanu

Brücke über den Fluß Savone bei la Marchesa [3]

Listen to the story

Ad Pontem Campanum was the stop at the bridge that carried the Via Appia over the little river Savo, near La Marchesa, on the edge of Campania. The poet Horace, travelling with Maecenas to Brundisium, spent a night at the small villa beside this bridge, and the Roman writer Pliny says that the famous Falernian vineyards began here. On the map the distance back to Sinuessa is missing, and the stretch onward is drawn as two.
