Ad Promontorium

Ad Promontorium, at the headland, is the Ancyreum promontory, where the entrance to the Bosporus begins on the Asian side; the map has shortened the strait so much that the place seems to lie on the open Black Sea. Its Greek name, the anchor cape, was explained by a stone anchor that Jason received here. Ptolemy mentions a temple of Artemis on the headland, and Guido's list says an iron chain could close the strait at this point. The fifteen miles the map gives on to Ad Herbas Fluvius should be five.
