Teano Scedicino

Teano

Listen to the story

Teano Scedicino was the town of the Sidicini, an Oscan-speaking people whose capital it was, and the epithet set it apart from a namesake in Apulia. Today it is Teano in northern Campania, on the Via Latina. It probably submitted to Rome after 334 BC, stayed loyal through the war against Hannibal, and received a colony under Augustus. It had baths, a theatre, an amphitheatre and a mineral spring. Its pair of towers once looked like a modern addition, but pigment analysis argues otherwise. It seems rather the work of another hand, or a quick sketch made in haste.
