Ad Pontem

Tel Afar in Iraq may stand on the site of Ad Pontem, a station eighteen Roman miles from Zagurae and eighteen again from Abdeae; older research thought instead of the ruins at Karatepe. The name itself is plain Latin, 'at the bridge', and points to a river crossing, though the map shows only the name.
