Ad Novas
Čezava
Ad Novas was the base of a Roman scouting unit on the Danube: a late Roman list of garrisons places a prefect of scouts here, beside a local auxiliary troop. The fort lay at Čezava in the Iron Gates gorge in Serbia; older research looked near Brnjica, where the ruins of a Roman fort once held legionary soldiers. Novae simply means the new place, a name the map uses several times. The map sets Ad Novas twelve Roman miles from Cuppae and ten from Ad Scrofulas.
